Croatia thrash and knock Canada out of Qatar Cup

by

After conceding a goal practically at the beginning of the game, Croatia turned the match against Canada and took the lead in Group F in the Qatar Cup. With the 4-1 at the Khalifa International Stadium, the Europeans, to boot, eliminated the North American team.

The game started at high speed, and with a scare for the current world runners-up. With just 1 minute and 7 seconds, Canadian Davies took advantage of Buchanan’s cross and tested hard to open the scoring. In addition to being the fastest goal of the 2022 World Cup to date, it was also the first Canadian goal in World Cup history.

Gradually, Croatia began to impose its best touch on the ball and dominate the actions. Still in the first half, Livaja arrived with danger twice. At 36min, the Europeans finally tied with Kramaric, receiving a pass from Perisic.

Still in the first half came the turn, now, yes, with Livaja. The striker got the spare after Juranovic’s attempt and scored the second goal.

In the second half, Croatia largely dominated the match and scored twice more. First with Kramaric: the striker from Hoffenheim (Germany) received from Modric to score the team’s third goal.

Already in the additions, the Canadian defender stepped on the ball, which was clean for Orsic. The Croatian charged to the edge of the area and only rolled for Majer to push towards the goal. The negative note for the Croatians was the yellow card for the star and captain of the team, Modric, who will hang for the confrontation with the Belgians.

Incidentally, the duel against Belgium, on Thursday (1st/12), may be elimination. After the Belgian defeat against Morocco, the team had 3 points; if they win it will go to 6 and would leave the Croatians with 4. Morocco, already with 4 points and a difference of 2 goals, faces the eliminated Canadians and they only need a draw to advance.
