Cameroon coach believes in victory over Brazil

The Cameroon team believes it can beat Brazil to stay alive in the World Cup in Qatar. This is what team coach Rigobert Song said in a press conference this Monday (28), after the 3-3 draw with Serbia.

“For the last game against Brazil, we believe. We didn’t come to the World Cup to be extras or just to participate”, stated Song.

“We believe in that (victory). Cameroon still has one last chance, although we know that (Brazil) is a great team”, highlighted the coach.

About the match against the Serbs, Song highlighted the way his team recovered after losing 3-1.

“What mattered was that determination. Today we saw a furious team, even though we were losing. In the first half, it looked like it was over, but the players reacted well”, he commented.

“We are gaining strength, but our team is still young, it needs time. They want to give everything, sometimes they take it for naivety, but they will adapt with time”, he continued.

The coach also spoke about the dismissal of goalkeeper André Onana, an important player within the team.

“What I have to do in my role is to privilege the group over the individualities. A certain discipline is needed in a group and when these discipline criteria are not fulfilled, it is necessary to assume responsibilities”, he stated.

“For now, I asked him to wait and we will have the opportunity to see if he can continue (at the Worlds). That will also depend on him, he will have to go back to the rules, we will see if it is possible”, concluded Song.
