Right-back Danilo, 31, of the Brazilian national team, published this Wednesday (30), a text on Instagram in which he claims that workers are the “true heroes of a nation”, not athletes.
“A nation’s true heroes are in the classrooms, educating the next generations, in hospitals or ambulances saving lives, curing diseases, or in the streets picking up what we leave. They are in subways and buses full, crowded, driving or crowding and already starting the day ‘fighting’ for a space, in there and in life”, he wrote.
“We athletes have ‘only’ a different gift, an opportunity and a privileged position to influence. To be heroes of our own journey, of our own history. From this place, I only suggest: do everything putting all your heart, your soul, your essence. At the very least, the reward will be the satisfaction of having given yourself and done everything possible. Set limits but don’t set yourself limits!”, he added.
Danilo published the text while recovering from an injury, suffered in Brazil’s debut in the World Cup, in the victory over Serbia. The athlete had a ligament injury in his left ankle and hopes to return in the round of 16.
The defender had his place occupied by defender Éder Militão, 24, in the confrontation with Switzerland.
Danilo is just one of the injured trio: Neymar, 30, shirt number 10 for the national team, suffered a similar injury to his ankle, also in his debut game. The expectation of return is the same as that of the side. Alex Sandro, 31, defender on the left, underwent tests this Tuesday (29) and had a bruise found on his left hip muscle; he is out of the match against Cameroon, next Friday (2), but should return to the beginning of the knockout stage.
