Brazil is leaked for the first time, but advances with the best defense in the Cup

Brazil’s reserve team was unable to maintain the excellent defensive performance achieved by the starters in the first rounds of the 2022 World Cup. Against Cameroon, this Friday (2), the selection suffered the first shots on target, the first goal and the first defeat in the competition, by 1 to 0.

Even so, coach Tite’s team advances to the next stage as the owner of the best rear guard in the competition. Brazil appears alongside Holland, United States, Tunisia, Morocco and Croatia, with only one goal conceded. But he made fewer accurate finishes available to his opponents.

Only three moves ended in the direction of the Brazilian goal, all of them by the African team. In this criterion, the selection appears tied with Argentina, who conceded two goals in the group stage.

In the first two appearances, against Serbia and Switzerland, Brazil had not even conceded a single finish to their opponents. Goalkeeper Alisson was practically a spectator and worked much more with his feet than his hands. For this, he had seven blocks made by the line defenders in attempts by the European attackers.

With such solidity, Brazil became the first team not to take a shot on goal in the first two games of a Cup in 24 years, since France won the world in 1998.

In the third round, with a guaranteed spot and a completely reserve formation, Brazil was unable to stop the Cameroonian attack. In addition to Aboubakar’s goal, there were two saves by goalkeeper Ederson and a blocked attempt.

In the offensive part, coach Tite’s team was in debt. With only three goals scored, Brazil has the second worst attack among the 16 teams classified for the round of 16, tied with Australia. The two only appear ahead of the United States and Poland, who scored two goals each.
