The Hellenic Philatelic Table Tennis Federation submitted a nomination to ETTU to organize in Loutraki in October 2023 a tournament of the new series of matches under the name Europe Youth Series!
At the beginning of November, we remind you, the ETTU had announced that next year it is launching an open for its national member federations and they will include the categories of athletes under 15 and under 13 years old. The E.F.O.E.P.A., which since 2021 has achieved very important things by taking on international events, immediately saw the situation positively and is among the federations that submitted the first form of interest to hold such a tournament.
The relevant deadline expired last week and in its proposal to the ETTU it gave two alternative dates in October 2023 for the holding of the open of the Europe Youth Series at the indoor gym “Giorgos Galanopoulos” in Loutraki. The initiative of EFOEPA can lead to a new strong motivation for the country’s talents, while it also takes on a historical dimension since, with the exception of two European youth championships (1973, 1987), a pan-European tournament at the level of young ages has not been held in our country .
On the occasion of EFOEPA’s candidacy, we will repeat points from ETTU’s report on the new institution it wants to create:
The European Union of the sport is going to implement something similar to the global Youth Contenders, only its own opportunities for the continent’s athletes will concern only two age categories of boys and girls.
The Europe Youth Series 2023 will consist of the following age categories:
Girls U15 (born 1 January 2008 and younger)
Boys U15 (born 1 January 2008 and younger)
Girls U13 (born 1 January 2010 and younger)
Boys U13 (born 1 January 2010 and younger)
The events, which the organizers must include in the tournaments, are the simple ones for boys and girls in the categories under 13 and under 15 years. The respective “hosts” can decide whether to organize the team competition either with mixed teams, or with boys’ and girls’ teams for both age categories.
Optional events are the doubles, i.e. mixed doubles and doubles events. Whether or not there will be doubles events, the tournaments will be four or five days.
In the possible mixed teams two boys and two girls can be nominated to make up each national team. A third or fourth athlete cannot be in any team. In exceptional cases, only the match director of the tournament can allow the formation of teams with players from different confederations, provided, however, that no players from more than two confederations can be in the same team.
The ETTU ranking list for the U13 and U15 categories will be available in 2023 as an experimental ranking system. The seedings for the European Youth Series events will be determined according to the U13 and U15 European rankings. The ETTU ranking system for the two age categories will be introduced no later than 15 December 2022.
