The women’s volleyball department of Panathinaikos welcomed at noon on Tuesday (6/12) the new coach of the department, Yannis Kalmazidis.
Coach Kalmazidis immediately got to work ahead of the team’s two important home matches, on Saturday (10/12, 20:00) against Ilysiakos and on Wednesday (14/12, 16:30) against French Nantes for the CEV Challenge Cup.
The coach of Panathinaikos, Yiannis Kalmazidis he stated: “At first I would like to say that I am very happy to be here, in a very big Club with a great history. We are called upon to defend last year’s titles, which is difficult but we want it very much and we will fight. Our team has very good elements, of course in all teams there are things we can improve, that’s why I’m here.
To try to find the elements we need improvement and bring them to the best possible level. The gymnasts are few in number, we would like a few more in case of injuries or illness. We need to frame the team a bit more to have depth and more security. I am very happy to have these girls at my disposal because they have great ambitions and abilities. Our job is to take it out on the field and help the girls perform at their best.”
For Panathinaikos’ next matches in Greece and Europe:
“We all more or less know the dynamics of the Greek reality and the teams that play in the league. We want to focus on our part. I want to see how the team works both in training and in games. Certainly the next two games with Elysiaco and Nantes have nothing to do with each other. Nantes are first in the French league which is much better than ours. It is a very strong team with many foreigners but we see it as a challenge. We will do our best to disturb their peace and embarrass them.
However, Saturday’s game is also difficult because no matter how we do it when there is such a serious change in a team, some things change but the quality of the athletes is very high and I think we will overcome it successfully”.
