The Englishman Michael Oliver will be the referee of the match between Brazil and Croatia, on Friday (9), for the quarterfinals of the World Cup in Qatar. It will be his third game in this World Cup.
He will have as assistants the also Englishmen Stuart Burt and Gary Beswick. Dutch Pol Van Boekel will be in charge of VAR.
Oliver, 37, has already refereed Costa Rica’s 1-0 win over Japan and Saudi Arabia’s 2-1 defeat by Mexico, both in the group stage.
It is his first participation in a World Cup. In November 2018, he refereed the friendly between Brazil and Cameroon, with a 1-0 Brazilian victory, a goal by Richarlison.
He knows Brazilian players well, as 11 of Tite’s selections play in the Premier League.
