Pelé published a message of consolation for striker Neymar on social networks on Friday night (9), after the elimination of the Brazilian national team in the World Cup in Qatar after losing on penalties to Croatia, in the quarterfinals.

In the message, Pelé congratulates Neymar for having equaled his record for goals in the Brazilian national team, with 77 goals. “My record was set almost 50 years ago, and no one has managed to get close to it until now. You made it, boy. That enhances the greatness of your achievement”, says an excerpt from the message.

The King also regrets the elimination in the World Cup and says that Neymar is a “source of inspiration”.

Read the message:

“I saw you grow, I cheered for you every day and finally I can congratulate you for matching my number of goals with the Brazilian team. We both know that this is much more than a number. Our greatest duty, as athletes, is to inspire, to inspire our professional colleagues of today, the next generations and, above all, to inspire everyone who loves our sport.

Unfortunately, the day is not the happiest for us, but you will always be the source of inspiration that many aspire to become. I’ve learned that the more time passes, the more our legacy grows. My record was set almost 50 years ago and nobody had managed to get close to it until now. You made it, boy. This values the greatness of your achievement.

However, you know, as I do, that no number is greater than the joy of representing our country. I’m 82 years old, and after all this time, I hope I’ve inspired you in some way to get this far. More than that, I hope that your achievement spreads to the millions of people who follow you to challenge what seems impossible.

His legacy is far from over. Keep inspiring us. I will continue to punch the air with happiness with every goal you score, as I have done every game I’ve seen you on the field.”

This Saturday (10), Neymar published a text on Instagram talking about the elimination in the World Cup in Qatar. Among the hundreds of messages, there is also another one from the King of Football.

“Keep being a source of inspiration,” reads the message.

Pelé, 82, has been hospitalized since November 29 at Albert Einstein Hospital, in the west zone of São Paulo, being treated for colon cancer and a respiratory infection.
