New song by Argentine fans mentions Malvinas and Maradona; see the lyrics

by

The success of the Argentine national team at the World Cup in Qatar took thousands of fans to the streets of Buenos Aires, and a new song emerged as a hit in this campaign at the World Cup.

It takes the place of the saturated lyric “Brasil, decíme que se sente….”, sung until exhaustion in the 2014 World Cup and, later, when Argentina beat Brazil in the Copa America.

Like all music related to the national team, it makes reference to the Falklands War, lost to the British in 1982, and to the idol Diego Maradona, reverently mentioning his parents.

“The hardest thing is for music to fall in love with people. When that happens, everything becomes easier. That Messi said he liked it so much means a lot to me”, says Guillermo Novellis, vocalist of the band La Mosca Tsé Tsé.

The lyrics he wrote for the national team, a version of “Muchachos”, one of his own group’s best-known songs, to honor Messi and the team at the Qatar Cup, spread throughout the delegation and among fans.

Check out the lyrics, with free translation in parentheses:

I was born in Argentina
(in Argentina I was born)

land of Diego and Lionel
(land of Diego and Lionel)

of the Malvinas pibes that you will never forget.
(from the Malvinas boys that I will never forget)

I can’t explain it to you
(I can’t explain to you)

why don’t you understand
(because you won’t understand)

the finals we lost, how many years they cry.
(the finals we lost, how many years I cried for them)

But that ended because at the Maracaná
(but that ended because at Maracanã)

in the final with the brazucas I returned to win papa…
(in the final with the Brazilians, dad won again)

Muchachos, now we are back to illusion
(Friends, now we have hope again)

I want to win the third, I want to be world champion
(I want to win the third, I want to be world champion)

and al Diego, in the sky we can see it
(and we can see Diego in the sky)

with don Diego and with la Tota, encouraging him to Lionel.
(with Don Diego and Tota –Maradona’s parents– giving Lionel strength)
