by

Luka Modric, 37, leaves the World Cup in Qatar with the bronze medal with Croatia, who defeated Morocco by 2-1 this Saturday (17). In what may have been his farewell to World Cups, he guarantees that he will at least remain in the national team “until the League of Nations”, which will be held in June 2023.

“The plan is to play the final of the League of Nations. After that, we’ll see how and what to do next, but the League of Nations, for sure”, confirmed the Croatian captain when questioned, on the Gol Mundial television channel, about his continuity in the selection.

“Winning two medals in two World Cups is something very important and very big for Croatia. You can no longer talk about Croatia as a team that does something every 20 years. We are a constant in world football. You can see us as a superpower football!”, said the number 10.

“With the last World Cup and with this one, we put Croatia on the map of the great teams and we are very happy. We wanted to be in the final, we didn’t manage to, but we went home as winners, which is also very important”, analyzed Modric, a of the survivors of the team that also surprised at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, reaching the final they lost to France (4-2).

“It could be (the last World Cup), but I can’t say anything. I’m very happy for my whole career in Croatia. Winning two medals is something very important. I wanted to win the Cup, that was my dream. It didn’t happen , but I’m also very happy with these two medals”, said the captain, who twice came very close to winning the most coveted trophy in world football.

“We confirm that Croatia have a great team, that they have a very good future ahead of them and we must continue. [jogadores] are here for the first time and already have a medal. It took me 12 years, I went through everything and everything. This for them is an excellent guide to the future!”, said the captain, leaving the door open for continuity beyond the League of Nations. “In the future we will see what happens.”
