by

Twelve hours before the final of the World Cup in Qatar, the main television channels in Argentina showed, at midnight this Saturday (17), the national anthem sung by the national team players.

According to the Argentine newspaper Clarín, the institutional action was an initiative of the AFA (Argentine Football Association).

Argentina can win this Sunday (18), at 12h (Brasília time), at the Lusail stadium, the third championship in the World Cup, if it beats France. The display of the anthem in the voices of the team led by coach Lionel Scaloni had the objective of motivating the fans even more.

Telefe, El Trece, América, El Nueve, Net Tv and La Televisión Pública channels participated in the initiative.

The video began with an image of the Argentine flag displayed in stadiums before the national team’s matches. Then came the Argentine players, starters and substitutes, singing the final part of the anthem.

The recording that aired was of the athletes singing the anthem before the dispute with Croatia, in one of the semifinals of the 2022 Cup.

Until the World Cup in Russia in 2018, the Argentine anthem was heard without the stanzas due to the limitation of just 90 seconds imposed by FIFA.

At Scaloni’s request, this changed in Qatar and FIFA authorized that at least the final part of the anthem be sung before the games.

According to Clarín, the Qatar Cup is the first to include the stretch considered epic by the Argentines:
“…crowned with glory shall we live Or shall we swear with glory die!”
