North Korea launched a “ballistic missile of an unknown type” today, South Korea’s National Defense General Staff said, days after Pyongyang said it had “successfully” tested a “solid fuel” engine with “high thrust” that could potentially will allow her to develop more powerful weapons.

“North Korea launched two ballistic missiles of an unknown type in the direction of the East Sea, also known as the Sea of ​​Japan,” South Korea’s National Defense General Staff announced.

The missiles have already been shot down and are believed to have washed ashore outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ), according to Japan’s coast guard.
