Mbappé leaves the final stadium in silence and is mocked by an old interview

Averse to interviews, striker Mbappé left the Lusail stadium without speaking to journalists after France’s defeat by Argentina, in the final of the World Cup in Qatar.

Social networks, then, sought an interview from the past, granted in the first half of this year. Several Twitter users revisited the Frenchman’s statements, which downplayed the importance of South American football.

In May of this year, Mbappé said in an interview with TNT Sports that the South American teams were behind the European ones.

“Argentina and Brazil don’t play high-level matches before the Cup. In South America, football is not as advanced as it is in Europe. And that’s why, when you look at the last Cups, it’s always the Europeans who won”, said the ace.

This Sunday, after the title, Lionel Scaloni, coach of Argentina, minimized Mbappé’s statements, saying that the Frenchman would have been misunderstood.

“We need to get out of this Europe-Latin America controversy. Our teams are top-notch. When Mbappe mentioned this issue, he was misunderstood. A while ago, I said that each one had their titles, but it wasn’t because of the level. I need to interpret the words and not get into controversy.”

The fact that the main player of the team missed two press conferences after games in which he was elected man of the match resulted in a fine from the FFF (French Football Federation). The World Cup regulations indicate that the player of the game must attend the conference room after the match.

Mbappé won the award in games against Australia and Denmark. In the first, the federation was warned. On the second, he received a fine. Already after the game against Poland, he appeared and said that it was nothing personal, just “I needed to concentrate on the tournament”.
