Opinion – Walter Casagrande Jr.: Final could be a film directed by Tarantino or Scorsese

by

The most spectacular World Cup final of all time crowned not only Argentina but also South America.

Being just a Latin American boy, I really rooted for our “brothers”, because their victory would also be the resurgence of our continent on the world stage.

The football gods love to play with us, but this time they took the importance of this match seriously.

One of the two teams, Argentina or France, would be three times champion.

On the one hand, the great star of this century, Messi, who had yet to win a World Cup.

On the other, the best young player in the world, and perhaps of the century.

There were also two great trainers who helped a lot, and in that way, it was impossible not to come out a work of art.

This final could be a film directed by Quentin Tarantino or Martin Scorsese, which would undoubtedly win Oscars for screenplay, lead and supporting actor, cinematography and soundtrack. And it would be considered one of the most beautiful and emotional features in the history of cinema.

It was the most exciting football match I have ever seen inside a stadium. Messi and Mbappé displayed the best in a player.

Much has been said about this Cup by the Argentine fans, and once again it was spectacular. It is exciting to see the identification of this team with its people.

It is also saddening to realize that our Brazilian team is a long way from going through a moment like this again.

Both teams gave each other the whole game. Even with the physical wear and tear, nobody could show weakness, because the game was always open.

Who would have thought that after the total Argentine domination, ending the 1st half winning 2-0, everything would get complicated?

France never gave up.

They went into overtime, with both teams taking chances. And again the two geniuses went into action.

Messi scored Argentina’s third goal, and the stadium came crashing down with the certainty that it was all over.

The problem is that Mbappé went there and tied again, achieving a feat: three goals in a Cup final.

On penalties, the Argentines proved to be more emotionally prepared and were world champions.

Detail: the two players who took the first penalty for each team were the great stars, Mbappé for France and Messi for Argentina. The two did.

This shows how backward our coaches’ mentality is. The only team that left the best for last was Brazil, and Neymar didn’t even hit, because we were eliminated before.

After that final, it became clear how far behind the world we are.

Either the CBF takes the opportunity now to bring in a strong foreign coach to change the mentality of our football, or we will fall further and further behind.

Today I see that in addition to France and Argentina, Croatia, England, Holland and even Morocco were more organized than us.

Doing a general cleaning and breaking those pans that since 2006 have been disturbing our football is essential. A coach like Ancelotti, with Paulo Roberto Falcão as director, would be ideal to bring seriousness, focus and more modern ideas.

Brazil as a country is already changing. As of January 1, 2023, we will officially have a new president democratically elected at the polls, which is Lula.

The Brazil of football also needs to change urgently.

And to end this text, I would like to shout out the first sentence of the song “Para Lennon e McCartney”, by Milton Nascimento: “I AM FROM SOUTH AMERICA”
