Vasco and CBF mourn Dinamite’s death; see repercussion

After the death of Roberto Dinamite, 68, the greatest idol in the history of Vasco, this Sunday (8), due to bowel cancer, the world of football and authorities honored the player and offered condolences to his family and friends.

In a note released on its website, Vaco da Gama said that it “communicates with inestimable regret the death of the greatest idol in the club’s history”, recalled the player’s trajectory and statistics and said goodbye saying “thank you, Roberto. We love you. Forever”. The club also changed their Twitter profile picture to an image of Dynamite.

The CBF, in turn, stated that Dinamite “was one of the greatest players in the history of our football. In addition to joining Vasco’s beautiful history, he enchanted football fans around the world”. The organization also said it “is in solidarity with the goalscorer’s family and fans” The statement is signed by Ednaldo Rodrigues, president of the confederation. Dinamite defended the team in the 1978 and 1982 cups.

Vascaíno, the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes (PSD), said on Twitter that Dinamite was his childhood idol. “The guy who made me experience the first emotions with my Vascão. A generous human being and friend. Go in peace, Dinamite. Thank you for all the moments of joy you gave me. My condolences to family, friends and the legion of fans of this star!”, he wrote.

Vasco’s rival, Botafogo also offered condolences via Twitter and wished strength to the former player’s family and friends.
