K1 Athens 2023: Greece is second among 72 countries

The Karate World Cup 1 Series A Athens 2023 was completed with absolute success, at the organizational and competitive level, at the AEK indoor stadium in Ano Liosia. It was the first major international event that our country undertook after ten years and was accompanied by the winning of four medals , two gold and two silver, thanks to which Greece took second place in the general ranking behind Japan and among 72 countries.

On Sunday, the last day of the games, the games were attended by the Mayor of Phylis, Christos Pappus, the president of the World Karate Federation (WKF) Antonio Espinos and many presidents of national federations of the sport.

The gold medals were won by the two Greek women, Kelly Kydonaki and Konstantina Chrysopoulou. In the final of the category +68k. KUMITE, Kydonaki, defeated Kelara Madani (USA) 4-0, while at -61k. the 18-year-old Chrysopoulou, revelation of the games, defeated Sarara Shimanda (Japan) 4-1, despite being behind in the score.

At -75k. men’s team, Haris Giannakos was “carrying” a knee injury from Friday’s semi-final. Against the Moroccan Asaas, he gritted his teeth, took the first point, but was unable to continue and left with the score at 1-1. At -84k. Konstantinos Mastrogiannis gave his best against the very strong Japanese Junia Eto, who prevailed 3-1.
