Dimitris Spanos recorded a great career on the bench of our team and wrote his own special story in it. He joined our team this summer 2021 and promoted it to the first division after 14 years. The return season was highly successful with Ionian finishing seventh, impressing the football world and becoming a role model team.

Unfortunately, this season did not go as we expected, which resulted in our team being in last place with 8 points. After discussions on both sides, it was decided on the common consent solution of the cooperation, looking at the good of the team.

Dimitris Spanos was, is and will be one of us. He leaves as a friend, as one of our people! He leaves as the coach with the most games on the bench of our team! The Ionikos family and the Tsirigotis family thank him for everything he has offered and wish him the best in his career.

Statement of the Tsirigotis family:

“The Tsirigotis family wants to thank Dimitris Spanos from the bottom of their hearts for what he offered to our team. For all the joys we experienced together, for all the times we celebrated in each other’s arms, but also for all the times we were sad. This decision was not easy at all, because coach Spanos is a great person, an excellent coach and a good friend. Our friendship has lasted for 30 years, we have known Dimitris since he was playing football. We knew and we know that he is a remarkable and special person, with great morals and values. Coaches, a little thank you from the Tsirigotis family and the Ionikos family for what you have given for this team.”
