Weber: “The supposedly great sacrifices made by the drivers are nonsense”

by

The former driver and nine-time Formula 1 Grand Prix winner made revealing statements. Mark Webber.

Speaking on a podcast, he characterized as nonsense the great sacrifices which the Formula 1 drivers have reported to have done, saying that this cannot be valid as they are all being paid very well to do an amazing job.

“Let’s not hide behind our finger. You get paid very well to do an amazing job. Those who say they make sacrifices are utter nonsense. There is no burden. I never talked about sacrifices. Some talk about sacrifices and how they left a lot behind. I think this is bullshit. We have drivers from Australia who say they have made so many sacrifices in their lives. They haven’t. If they think they did that, then they’re already on the wrong track.” were his words.

At the same time, he also spoke about the fact that many drivers have risen through the small categories, but about the enormous pressure that exists in this, referring to his own example.

“My first F1 contract was for two races, can you believe it? It was for three weeks. I had nothing to offer. That’s how things were. So what would I do, give up or try to rise up? You have to highlight yourself in the sport and work as well as you can with the people around you. In my last three seasons I was consistently on a one-year contract and was one breath away from being traded. That lit a fire in me and I told myself that I have to bring value to the organization to be renewed,” added the Australian.
