The organization of the Europe Youth Series 2023 table tennis tournament in October in Loutraki is a development that also honors EFOEPA for the serious and methodical effort it has been making for a year and a half to undertake international events. The European Table Tennis Union has accepted the nomination of the Hellenic Federation to take over a tournament within the framework of the new Europe Youth Series institution that starts this year.
Our country will organize one of the Opens in the series, which concerns children up to 13 and up to 15 years old, in the period from October 25 to 29, 2023 in Loutraki. He had received the positive messages from ETTU for some time and now he happily received the official notification that the event of Loutraki has been included in the calendar. And only if one thinks that Greece will organize for the first time a pan-European youth tournament (excluding the two European Youth Championships in 1973 and 1987) one realizes the importance of the event and the benefits that can be derived from it.
Venue is the “Giorgos Galanopoulos” indoor gym. The tourist town of Loutraki and the specific area have successfully hosted various sports activities in recent decades, from international competitions to the Balkan Youth Championship in 2002 and the match of our national men’s team for the European League in 2009.
The ETTU has currently notified the federations of five U13 and U15 tournaments for 2023. They will take place in Croatia, Montenegro, Czech Republic, Greece and Turkey. In the list there are also the first items for each tournament.
For the Greece Open, as it is titled, it is stated that 16 tables will be used for the matches and another eight for the training sessions. Also, the team, singles and doubles competitions will be held.
The teams will be mixed, i.e. they will be formed by boys and girls, which was also a basic proposal of ETTU, following the standards of last year’s Europe Challenge Under 13, but also of the European Championship that will be held this year in this age category, as a continuation of of the 2022 event. The mixed doubles event will not be held.
