Madrid police sources revealed this Thursday (2) that fingerprints and DNA traces were found on the doll that was hung with a T-shirt belonging to Brazilian player Vinicius Júnior on a Madrid bridge a week ago.
In addition to these traces, the investigation reported having found images of suspicious vehicles, as well as the license plates of these cars, through traffic cameras in the region. The police, however, Sheet that there are still no arrests.
This closes the siege on the perpetrators of the racist gesture. Several sports organizations in Spain demonstrated at the time condemning the act, such as Real Madrid, Vinicius Jr.’s team, Atlético de Madrid, the club he played against that night, La Liga, which organizes the Spanish championship, and the Spanish Football Federation.
In addition to the black doll simulating the player’s hanging, there was a red banner with the inscription “Madrid hates Real”. The crime was likely perpetrated by fans of rival club Atlético de Madrid.
According to Atlético, “facts like this are absolutely disgusting and inadmissible and embarrass society. The rivalry between the two clubs is maximum, but so is respect. (…) We do not know the author or authors of this despicable act, but anonymity does not exempts you from responsibility. We hope that the authorities can clarify what happened and that justice will help to banish this type of behavior”.
The police findings are part of an effort by several entities that were brought together this Monday (30) by the State Commission against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia and Intolerance in Sport.
Linked to the Ministry of Culture and Sport of Spain, the commission announced that the case of Vinicius Júnior transcends the administrative field and enters the criminal field.
In the second, the commission had already informed that “it is working, among other lines of investigation, on viewing the surveillance cameras of the traffic in the area, as well as the images published on social networks to discover the authors of these despicable acts of a racist nature, xenophobic and intolerant”.
