Tsitsipas: “Happy for the children on the field, I didn’t have such an opportunity when I was young”

Today was a very important day for Greek tennis.

THE Stefanos Tsitsipas defeat him Andres Andrade with a 2-0 set and secured her qualification Greece in the World Group I of the Davis Cup for the first time in 19 years.

After the match, the Greek tennis player commented at the press conference both on his performance, as well as on the whole event in general, as well as the strong presence of people and children in the stands.

What Tsitsipas said in detail:

For his appearances: “The truth is that even now that I was here, I was definitely not 100% after the Australian Open, but it was a priority for me to play, regardless of how I felt. I only had two days off, but I managed to find a balance. The spectators were excellent, they helped us a lot during these two days. One thing I didn’t like and would like to mention was the lights in the stadium, which were very poor quality and bothered me. And the balls didn’t match that particular surface.”

For the strong presence of children in the stands: “It’s one of the best feelings, seeing young kids on the field and inspiring them. I didn’t have the opportunity growing up to see high-level tennis in Athens. It is very important that we played in such a big stage and that many people had the opportunity to see us. We gave hope to the children to keep fighting to achieve their goals.”

For Novak Djokovic: “I take an example from Djokovic, who a few years ago we thought he had reached the maximum level, but every year we see that he is improving. I am inspired by this. I have him as an idol at the moment.”

For the continuation of Greece in the Davis Cup: “It would be nice to be like Morocco in the World Cup. At the moment we are the underdog. We are a very united team, we are young and we play without fear. We have two more meetings. The next countries we will face have a tradition in tennis, but we are ready to face them. Over the years we will learn more and more and become better.”
