10 day extension to the winter transfer window in Turkey

by

The winter transfer window will be extended for another ten days Turkey, which was scheduled to close tonight. This was announced today by Turkish Football Federation (TFF), citing the relevant communication with FIFA and the approval of the world federation. The reason for the extension is none other than the national mourning that exists in the country after the deadly earthquake that left thousands dead and homeless.

According to FIFA’s regulations on the transfer of footballers, which are also binding at national level, the second transfer window of the 2022-2023 football season for professional footballers is set between 12 January and 8 February 2023. However, due to the declaration of national mourning for the seismic events in our country and the decision of the state of emergency in 10 regions, our federation submitted an official request to FIFA on 06.02.2023 and asked for the extension of the transfer window we are in. In negotiations with FIFA verbal approval was obtained to extend the transfer window by ten days and we are awaiting written approval as stated in the relevant procedure“, says the Turkish Football Federation.
