Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: “It’s my fault we don’t have a relationship with LeBron”

by

With LeBron James breaking yet another record and becoming the NBA’s leading scorer in the regular season, Kareem Abdul Jabbar, in a text on his website, addressed the reasons that have nothing to do with “the king”, while also mentioning on his feelings right now, which is second on said list.

Read an excerpt from his text:

“The first straw came when LeBron was asked about our relationship. He replied that we are not related. Out. I will come back to it. The second cuff came when Magic Johnson stated that he would be sorry to lose the record because I thought I would have it forever. double out”

I don’t hold Magic against him because he knows how competitive I was. But I’m not the same. I am 75 now. I retired from the NBA 34 years ago. Sorry Magic, I love you bro, but you’re wrong. When a record is broken, then we talk about a moment of celebration. LeBron said we’re not related and that’s the way it is, but that’s on me. I didn’t try hard enough to reach him.

I am quiet and shy, I like to read, watch TV and listen to jazz. But the main difference is the age difference between us. I saw that he had Kobe Bryant as a friend and mentor, I couldn’t see why he should hang out with someone my age.

In the end, LeBron makes me love the game again. And it makes me proud to be part of a community-minded group of athletes.”
