Christinaki: “The qualification should bring girls to basketball”

by

One matchday before the end of the EuroBasket 2023 qualifiers, the Women’s National Team sealed their qualification to the final phase. The “sweet” defeat by Portugal did not prevent the representative group from occupying the first place of the 7th Group by meeting in the summer on the courts of Slovenia and Israel.

Eleanna Christinaki spoke about the value of qualification and how much it can contribute to bringing more girls closer to women’s basketball. “The qualification is extremely important for women’s basketball in Greece. Once again we will be among the top national teams in Europe. We hope that our presence in the final phase of the event will lead many girls to take up the sport“, stressed the Panathinaikos guard.

The obligations do not stop for the Women’s National Team, which from Lisbon goes to Tallinn for Sunday’s match (12/02) against Estonia. “Now there is the match against Estonia which despite the fact that we have qualified the motivation remains as we want the win in an effort to do as well as possible hoping for a good draw. We will of course also see what went wrong in the match against Portugal and it is certain that we will improve. We must enter the match serious and grounded and we will give everything for the positive result. We don’t want them to underestimate any opponent».

Eleanna Christinaki also made reference to the match against Portugal, noting features. “Portugal is the truth that they played very hard, they played at home and in an almost full stadium. I think the referees left the game hard. In the second half we were able to and did the turnaround, went ahead and lost in the details. The important thing is that we made it to the final phase of EuroBasket, something we wanted very much».
