The awarding of the best in Greek athletics

by

On Friday evening, the best of Greek athletics were awarded at the celebration organized by SEGAS at the Municipal Theater of Piraeus, in order to honor the protagonists of the sport for the successes they brought to our country in 2022.

Sofia Sakorafa welcomed the protagonists and representatives of the local government who were awarded for their contribution to classical sports.

Giannis Moralis welcomed the athletes. “I welcome you to the jewel of Piraeus, the Municipal Theater, it is an honor for us that you are here today. I wish everyone health, have a good and successful year. The award is very honorable for me. We too are fighting to achieve a lot in local government. We are also making an effort so that very soon Piraeus will have its own space for athletics”, said the Mayor of Piraeus.

Immediately after, the president of SEGAS welcomed the athletes and the attendees. “We thank the Municipality for granting the emblematic space. Thank you for being here today. Today we have the opportunity to brag about our athletes with their victory. Next year at the same celebration, I hope there will be more successes that we will celebrate and people that we will reward.

I want to believe that, as the management of SEGAS, we make every effort to be close to every athlete, coach and club throughout Greece. I want to remind everyone that supporting sports is a constitutionally guaranteed right and it is not only the Federation’s business, but everyone’s. Let’s think about how much effort is needed for a success to come and how many people are behind it”, while he asked for a minute’s silence for the victims of the earthquake in Turkey, among whom are many sportsmen and women.

The General Secretary of Sports, Giorgos Mavrotas represented the Government and, in his short speech, he emphasized that: “Thank you to SEGAS for the invitation and to the Municipality of Piraeus for providing this space, such an environment deserves these successes and these people . Sports is a quadrilateral that includes health, principles, economic development and the image of the country. Let SEGAS and classical sports in general represent these four very well in our country.

For Greece, the development of sports is a matter of public interest and we should all serve it. The resources that go to sports are an investment to build the new generations.”

The awards started with the top sportsmen and women who stood out in 2002. Miltos Tedoglou may have been absent, but his coach, Giorgos Pomaski, was there to receive the award from Sofia Sakorafa.
