Almeida for arbitration: “I’m a coach, I’m not a policeman”!

Statements at the press conference after the derby with PAOK in Toumba, made by the coach of AEK, Matias Almeidaemphasizing that the “Two-Headed of the North” hit his team at the right moments, while he also answered a question about whether he has complaints from the referee, stressing that his job is to be a coach and not a police officer.

In addition, he emphasized that the fact that so many teams are close in the standings and claim the title of champion strengthens Greek football.

What the AEK coach said in detail:

For the fact that AEK conceded two goals with three final attempts by the opponent: “A brief analysis I have made of the game that was played, I think it was a great game. I think our opponent hit us, in quotes, at the right times. I didn’t see a difference between the two teams, but I did see a difference on the scoreboard. I congratulate the opponent who won and we will continue to work to continue the effort we are making”.

On whether PAOK’s young players make an impression on him: “During the week I said it, it seems that a good job is being done in terms of PAOK’s academies, some young footballers are coming out with great talent and I believe that the other clubs can copy this type of actions that are being taken because it is proven that the Greek footballers have talent and have a future”.

For the competitiveness of the league: “Being so many teams close and competing for the title strengthens Greek football. There is tension and it is a live league. I think it will be played until the last second of the last game. As a person who has lived football since I was a child, I always wish to see a similar spectacle to today’s and try for the best to win. Of the teams I have faced and analyzed, the PAOK team seems to me to be the team that plays very good football. I also told their coach from the first game. Today we had to do everything perfectly, as we did in the first match in Philadelphia, but in football not everything goes as you want. PAOK, however, plays good football just like our team, we are two teams that play as a whole”.

On whether he has grievances from arbitration: “In general I talk very little about refereeing. In football, sometimes you are favored, other times something goes against you. I am fighting for a fair football to the extent that this is possible. My job is to work, I’m a coach, I’m not a police officer. I’m interested in my footballers running more than the opponents, respecting the opponent and everyone respecting us”.

On whether there is an imbalance between AEK’s attack and defense due to some mistakes made at the back: “If I remember correctly, in PAOK’s first goal, the ball found its way somewhere. He is an opponent who, due to his ability, gives the final pass, finds the opponent’s foot in the shot and scores. As for the second goal, we play a zone. We saw over 100 opponents’ corners in the analysis. With the belt we should have blocked the opponent’s tall players, but the ball went to the second post and the opponent went with power. We have to improve and work. But our strikers didn’t score a goal either”.
