Legendary BBC commentator John Motson has died

One of the most famous sportswriters in the world, Mr John Motsonpassed away today at the age of 77!

The legendary BBC commentator he had covered 10 World Cups, the same number of Euros and 29 FA Cupsbefore retiring from active duty in 2018.

Motson was so beloved by the English public, who used to refer to him as ‘Motty’, and had started working on sports coverage since 1971!

It is with great sadness that we announce that John Motson has passed away peacefully in his sleep today (Thursday).“, said a statement from the family of the deceased.

From 1979 until 2008, the man known for his encyclopaedic knowledge of the game was the BBC’s voice of major finals including the FA Cup, European Championship and World Cup.

Among others, he held a record sixth World Cup in Berlin in 2006 and 29th FA Cup final in 2008. Also, covered more than 200 matches of the England national team and commented on nearly 2,500 games on a television level.

The last game he described it was that of Crystal Palace against West Brom in 2018, after which he was invited to the center of the pitch and there was a related award from Palace manager Roy Hodgson, who presented him with a copy of his first and last matches which he described in ‘Selhurst Park’ and a crystal microphone.

Other than thathis popularity skyrocketed to a new generation of England fans, lending his voice to popular arcade football games.
