His first statements after resigning from the presidency of Super League 2 were made by Leonidas Leutsakos. Speaking to “mikriliga.com”, he stated that he acted ethically, while also speaking for “crude blackmail and seduction of the groups by the words of Avgenakis”.
In detail what he said:
“After the actions of the appointed Committee and after the appointments they made with the Deputy Minister Mr. Avgenakis and Mr. Marinakis, Mr. Rokakis came to the Council and told us that he can bring the 150,000 euros, with four prerequisites after at the request of the Deputy Minister. One of them was my resignation at the behest of Mr. Rokakis and the other members of the Commission. In addition, I had stated directly in the previous Council that if I was the problem, I would leave so that the teams could play football again and the league could run smoothly. I believe that the commitment of the Deputy Minister and Mr. Rokakis for the 150,000 should be implemented, otherwise it will be unfair, as the clubs need any financial contribution that belongs to them from the part of the bet profits.
A compromise was made between the Deputy Minister and Super League 1 to get this money. I considered that I should act morally, what I did, since the groups had a livelihood problem. But I believe that there was also a raw blackmail and a misleading of the groups by the words of the Deputy Minister, as what he told them is not correct. What I said to the groups is true and has been stated publicly by others besides me. I thank the teams very much for their cooperation so far and I believe that the league will find its way, find resources and continue without the blackness that apparently only Leutsakos brought. I want to see if this blackness will continue.”
In a related question about whether the teams will get the 150,000 euros if he leaves, he emphasized:
“This was the assurance of Mr. Rokakis and the Commission after the contacts with Mr. Avgenakis and Mr. Marinakis. Now it remains to be seen whether the commitments will come true.”
As to whether there is a time limit for the procedures to be completed:
“It is the responsibility of the Committee and Mr. Rokakis to bring the money for the teams to enter the stadium to play. After all, there is a window of time to complete the procedures until March 9, because after that the Parliament will be closed and there will be no new General Assembly”.
