Mitchell on Tempi: “Many say it was meant to be, but I don’t believe it”

His statements in detail:

How did you feel when you learned about the tragedy in Tempe?

“Too much sadness, too much despair. My thoughts went straight to the relatives of the victims who saw their children leave to go study and never return. It’s really, really hard. Young people who have their whole lives ahead of them… Many say that this was what they were meant to do, but I don’t believe it.

What happened affected the whole team. It has brought a lot of sadness to everyone and I think it was really a very good decision to postpone the Cup game because there is nothing more serious than what happened.”

Many say that the match against Levadeiakos is the easiest of those remaining until the end of the season. Do you agree?

“I don’t agree because if I believed something like that it would be disrespectful to Levadeiakos. For several weeks now, I believe that our team has entered the road to the playoffs. Levadeakos is a very good team. We have to win, we have to play well and gain confidence through this match to continue accordingly in the next ones.

If you look at the results, not only in ours, but also in other European leagues, then you will find that the score is greatly influenced by these kinds of matches and not only by derbies”.

For absences:

“We have Sokratis and Rodinei suspended, we have Embilas injured, but our team has too many players and everyone who competes must show that they can cope with the demands that exist with their performance. We are Olympiacos and we will have to find the solutions”.

Are you thinking of protecting the players who are on the card limit in view of the match with AEK that follows?

“We want the victory. We are looking for a way to win and we want to be at our maximum performance. When you think like that, to protect players because of cards, then many times things don’t go as you plan. So we will play without discounts for the win and if the game goes well, then we will think about that.”
