Suarez on Neymar: We told him with Messi that if he wanted to win everything he should stay with us

by

An interview after all the material was given to “Placar” by Luis Suarez.

The Uruguayan ace referred to Neymar and in that trio of fire they had made together with him Lionel Messi in Barcelona.

In detail what he said:

“I don’t really like to talk about it, but the time came when he was already a big player and we went with Messi and spoke to Neymar and said: “No, if you want to win everything, stay with us.” He heard us and said “Yes, yes, I want to stay”. But then there was the whole environment, which is sometimes hard to control. We, as friends, advised him to stay, but it is his decision, his family’s. We even told him: “Neymar, England is better.” Manchester City, football will be better there. But in France?’first reported and continued:

“If Neymar had stayed at Barcelona he would have definitely won a Ballon d’Or. My opinion is that if I had stayed, he would have won yes.”

While in a question why he thinks that the Neymar is low on the list of candidates for the Golden Ball stated:

“I think it’s down to bad luck with his injuries. He also likes to take responsibility, mistakes. But sometimes a player takes that responsibility and the team wins. But what if your team isn’t helping you at all? Because Neymar can be a good support, he can attack, he can score a goal, give an assist, but he can’t defend. And then sometimes a goal is conceded, many things can happen in football.

I think he was unlucky with the injuries and that cut him off every time he got the upper hand. Whenever he was on the rise, he had an injury. And then, in the national team, he didn’t win what he wanted and what was expected of him. The football player should be psychologically prepared to accept criticism at any time. I always say… the more criticism I receive, the more I get better. I like it more, but there are some players who don’t have that. There are footballers who are affected by criticism and saying good things to them makes them weak. And I say this because when you hear “best player”, “how many goals did he score…” etc. you take it on yourself and then you fall. So, I don’t care about anything about it. The player has to be ready for that.”
