THE George Papagiannis set a 23-year-old record with five shutouts at victory of Panathinaikos over Karditsawhile at the same time he passed Dino Raja in the list of the club’s leading rebounders.
The 25-year-old center set a new career record with five blocks, after reaching four blocks six times before yesterday’s game, the last being the away game against Larissa for the regular season.
At the same time, the international ace reached 200 caps in the Basket League. Only nine other players reached such a number before him. It took him 164 games to reach this feat (1.21 average).
This is the best interception performance by a Panathinaikos player in the last 23 years. In the historic path of the “greens” in the professional league, there were only two players who reached a performance greater than the five cuts made yesterday by Giorgos Papagiannis. Stojan Vrankovic who did it a total of 11 times and Željko Rebrača who had another 6+ interception performance.
Giorgos Papagianni’s five interceptions are a 23-year record for Panathinaikos in the division since since October 23, 1999 there has not been a player with five or more interceptions. That’s when Zeliko Rebratsa put his name next to that of Vrankovic, in the list of 6+ interceptions, making six in the home game against Dafni (81-74).
At the same time, having 4/6 two-pointers, he reached and surpassed 600 hits in the Basket League. It now counts 601/907 (66.26%).
Also, with the 12 defensive rebounds he had yesterday, he “climbed” one place in the historical list of Panathinaikos and is now 8th. He reached 592 and surpassed Dino Raja who had 581 in 1997-99.
*The Panathinaikos captain reached double-digit rebound performance for the first time this year and finished the game with 14 points and 13 rebounds, scoring his first double-double. He is the second player of the “greens” to reach such a performance this year after Artouras Gudaitis who did it twice, with PAOK mateco and Peristeri bwin in the 7th and 11th matchdays respectively.
Papagiannis also had the top hitting performance among players who reached a double-double, with five. The previous record was held by Akil Mitchell of AEK who “wrote” 20 points, 13 rebounds and four blocks in the match of the 2nd game against Apollon Carna.

Yesterday’s game left a career record for two more Panathinaikos players…
*Yorgos Kalaitzakis scored 20 points, improving by four points his individual record in his 58 appearances in the Basket League. He had 16 in the 5th match against Prometheus.
The international guard even scored the 6th 20+ point performance of this year’s Championship combined with at least 5/5 two-pointers, which he had yesterday. At the top of this list is Giorgos Papagiannis who in the match of the first round had 20 points with 10/10 two-pointers.
Giorgos Kalaitzakis as well as his brother Panagiotis were included in the short list of players who were perfectly accurate at two-pointers and remained statistically infallible. The former had 5/5 and the latter 3/3 two points while Vlado Yankovic also did something similar yesterday with AEK (6/6) and Papagiannis in the first round match in Karditsa (10/10).
*Lefteris Mantzoukas equaled the top performance of his 65 games in the division, having 14 points, as many as in the 2nd game against Lavrios Megabolt. Along with the five rebounds he had reached three digits through his 65th appearance in the Basket League.
*Lefteris Bohorides, with the three defensive rebounds he had, became the 28th player in the history of Panathinaikos in the Basket League to reach 200+.
