Giorgos Kougioumtsidis in the final of the European championship

Giorgos Kougioumtsidis is in the final of the u23 European Championship. The “phenomenon” of Greek Wrestling was truly unbeatable and easily reached the 79k final. in Elefthera.

Despite the fact that the draw was not easy for the Greek champion who was invited to face two athletes from advanced wrestling countries such as Azerbaijan and Armenia, Giorgos Kougioumtsidis once again showed his rich talent.

The European champion in the attempt to defend the title he won last year in the same event with an amazing performance qualified for the semi-finals.

Kouyoumtsidis won 14-4 in the quarter-final against Narek Grigorian from Armenia and entered the medal zone with technical superiority.

Initially he led 6-0 with Armenios reducing. In the second part of the match, Kouyoumtsidis confirmed his superiority and reached the impressive victory.

There he faced Abusli Amiraslanov. The Azeri champions took the lead just before the end of the half and went into half-time 2-0 up. The determination, the passion, the talent of Kougipoumtsidis, however, was so great that it led to the reversal and the victory with 5-2.

In Saturday’s final, the Greek champion will face Vladimiri Gamkrelitze. The Georgian champion in the U23 World Championship had won the gold medal. In fact, on his way to the gold he had defeated Kouyoumtsidis 9-6. In that game, the “phenomenon” had not started well and had found itself behind in the score with 7-1. He cut it to 7-6, but couldn’t make the turnaround. In the final of 79k. the Greek champion has the chance to get the rematch and with what he has shown in the competition, he can succeed!
