“I think there’s a section of Celtics fans that are very toxic and don’t want to see the athletes use their stride or just want to play basketball to entertain them and then go home. To me this is a problem. I’m not referring to all Celtics fans, but there is a portion that is problematic“, Brown emphasized.
“When you play a bad game, they associate it with your personality. There’s not a lot of room for people of color, for black entrepreneurs, to come in and open a business. My experience here is not as comfortable as I would like. Although I am an athlete and one would expect me to have some influence, but even I had to face difficulties trying to make an investment, buy a house or do certain things“, he added.
“There are other forms of racism that go unnoticed, such as inequalities in the education system. The money in programs and the opportunities given in some areas compared to others. But what do we do with the children who are talented and we don’t give them a chance?“, concluded.
THE Jaylen Brown is not the first NBA star to speak out about racist behavior from Celtics fans. LeBron James had done the same in 2022 stating that “… they are racist as far as it goes. But I don’t mind. I’ve been dealing with it my whole life».
