Pique on Negreira case: “Everything is conspiracies for the headlines and doro”

by

The veteran central defender gave an interview to the Spanish “El Pais”. Barcelona, Gerard Piquewho characterized the accusations against the Catalans for “Negreira Affair” as conspiracies aimed at sensational headlines and gore without any real substance.

The 35-year-old Spaniard, who retired just last November, emphasized that he or his teammates never had any favors, while also referring to his relationship with the president of the “Blaugrana” Joan Laporta.

What he said about the “Negreira Affair”:

“Nothing was done concerning the footballers, I never asked for a whistle. From the contacts I have with other football players of teams, I know that they put a lot of pressure on the referees and probably some even got whistles. We as a group, know nothing, have never been favored. The whole thing is based on conspiracies to fill the headlines, Spain lives for such cases, but at some point the world must understand why all this is being done.”

On his relationship with the current president of the Catalans, Joan Laporta:

“I have always had an excellent relationship with Laporta since 2008 when I met him. We always told each other our thoughts face to face and of course there were moments of tension as in any true relationship, which is characterized by trust. Our relations remain excellent despite my retirement. In such cases it is obvious that you proceed to difficult discussions and saying different things like in any professional relationship”.
