Fulham got the oil out of her, but… Manchester United escaped! Although Mitrovic froze “Old Trafford”, the guests could not withstand the final stretch of the match and with a reversal prevailed 3-1 to qualify for the semi-finals of the FA Cup.
In fact, Fulham saw two players sent off at one point, a penalty awarded to United and Marco Silva also sent off from the “cottagers” bench. Full for a Manchester derby in the FA Cup final, with the “red devils” facing Brighton in the top four and City in the final if they qualify!
The first part was fully balanced, with few phases on either side and the best of all was the one in the 3rd minute for Fulham with Diop that De Gea took out! More generally, Marco Silva’s team with excellent tactics did not leave space for their opponents and they even struck at the beginning of the second half with Mitrovic for 1-0 in the 51st minute. A quarter later, the Serbian striker almost gave his team a two-goal lead with a header.
This phase seemed to wake up the home team who took measures on the pitch, pressed and immediately gained… an advantage. Because Willian had a handball over the line at Sancho’s finish, with the Fulham man sent off by the referee in the 71st minute. He wasn’t the only one to see the red card, though, after Mitrovic shoved the referee, while Marco Silva also saw her sent to the dressing room!
Fernandes equalized from the penalty spot in the 75th minute, while Zabitcher sealed the upset for the “red devils”. Fernandes put the icing on the cake in the 6th minute of stoppage time and made the final 3-1 for Manchester United.
The draw for the semi-finals:
Brighton-Manchester United
Manchester City-Sheffield United
