The Palmeiras squad re-appeared for the 2022 season this Wednesday (5). And with bad news: five athletes from Alviverdes had positive results in the Covid-19 test.

They are goalkeeper Weverton, midfielders Patrick de Paula and Gustavo Scarpa and forwards Breno Lopes and Rafael Navarro. According to the club, all are asymptomatic and have been isolated.

“Our prevention protocol to Covid-19 provided for testing before starting the exams. Athletes who tested positive are in perfect health and asymptomatic. They were promptly isolated in their homes and will follow the medical care that we determined as part of the protocol. Now, we will do the daily monitoring of the clinical condition of each one of them”, said the doctor alviverde Pedro Pontin, to the official website of Palmeiras.

From the group infected by Covid, Rafael Navarro is the only reinforcement for 2022. In 2021, the striker defended Botafogo and managed with the Rio team access to the Serie A of the Brazilian Championship.

After vacationing in Portugal at the end of the year, coach Abel Ferreira is also already in São Paulo and will start the team’s preparations for the season.

Palmeiras’ main objective at the beginning of 2022 is to dispute the Club World Cup, in February, in the United Arab Emirates. The Palmeirenses debut in the competition on the 8th, against the winner of Al Ahly (EGI) x Monterrey (MEX).
