Siopis, the 200th scorer of the National Team and Constantelias the 628th “blue and white” international

by

The first goal of Manolis Siopis with the national flag, the debut of Konstantelias, the performances of Bakaseta and the return of Kostas Fortounis to the representative group, stand out in the statistics of the Greek national team after the match against Gibraltar for the Euro 2024 qualifiers.

The update of the EPO

It was April 7, 1929, when the then 23-year-old Albertos Namias scored in the Greece-Italy 1-4 match at “Apostolos Nikolaidis”, which is recorded as the first official match of the national team. This was the first goal of the National Team in its history, with which the Thessaloniki striker of Iraklis was recorded as the first footballer to score for the Greek National Team.

Since then, almost 94 years and 633 games have passed to reach the Friday 24 March 2023 game against Gibraltar, in which Manolis Siopis made history. With the goal he scored in the 45th minute, he became the 200th scorer in the history of the National Team, with which he reached 22 appearances, while he also has 15 appearances with the National Team of Hope. The 29-year-old midfielder from Alexandroupoli is not even one of the worst scorers. In his career he has scored a total of two goals, one with the National Team against Gibraltar and one at collective level with a penalty.

Debut

In the 3-0 win over Gibraltar, Yannis Constantelias made his debut. The 20-year-old Voliotis became the 628th player in history to wear the jersey of the National team.

He keeps scoring

Tasos Bakasetas found the net for the sixth time in less than nine months. He reached 11, but it is his first in a EURO competition (qualifiers), as the other 10 were in other competitions, 5 in the UEFA Nations League, 3 in World Cup qualifiers and 2 in friendlies.

Back after two years

In the match against Gibraltar, Kostas Fortounis entered as a substitute and competed again with the National Team after two years rather than a week! He is the first active player of the “blue and white” in appearances, as he has 55, one more than Bakaseta, who has 54, while Petros Mandalos has 51.
