The Olympiakos duo won the title in Amyntaio, Florina, in the reappearance of the event in the Panhellenic championship program after 13 years. In the final, which ended early in the evening on 25/03, the day of the national anniversary, the first part of the top event, he defeated Giorgos Konstantinopoulos and Konstantinos Paridis of Panathinaikos with 3-1 sets. Saturday’s singles and doubles matches for men and women had been completed earlier. We remind you that tomorrow, Sunday 26/03, when the championship ends, the clocks should show one hour ahead. 60 sportsmen and women are competing in the closed gym of the northern Helladic town. EFOEPA had a live broadcast on the internet from midday through EFOEPA’s youtube channel.

The mixed doubles started from the round of “32” with a total of 21 entries. The first two favorites faced off for the gold medal, with Konstantinopoulos/Paridis at the top of the knockouts and Stamatouros/Papadimitriou at the base (right-handed and left-handed combination in both cases). The 1st set turned out to be crucial, where the Olympiacos athletes turned the situation around from 6-8. They made it 2-0 in the sets and when the Panathinaikos pair reduced the score they showed great stability to reach the final 3-1.

In the semi-finals the favorites prevailed relatively easily. There, Sokratis Giannoutsos and Evangelia Meramvelliotakis of Olympiakos and Konstantinos Konstantinopoulos and Christina Athanasopoulou (Panathinaikos/Phoenicia Agia Sophia Piraeus) were eliminated and won the bronze medal. Earlier, in the quarterfinals, Giannoutsos and Meramvelliotaki reached victory 3-2 against Gerasimos Hatzilygeroudis/Ioanna Gerasimatos with an incredible turnaround from 4-10 in the 5th set! Also, K. Konstantinopoulos/Athanasopoulou eliminated the 3rd favorite, Tasso Riniotis/Aliki Kioufi, with a 3-0 set. The awards were presented by the second vice-president of EFOEPA and president of ASEA Sarises Florina Giorgos Lygouras.

THE 16 ADES OF THE SINGLE AND THE 8 ADES OF THE DOUBLE

The first act of the championship was the early evening draws on Friday 24/03. There was recorded the only negative event in the sports event, which, however, does not include the responsibility of E.F.O.E.P.A.. In the last hour, the participations decreased by 5 for men and by 4 for women. With the exception of one participation cancellation, the rest of the athletes were forced out of the games because there are clear instructions from the General Secretariat of Sports to the federation (instructions during the course of the season and not from its beginning) for the implementation of the legislation, which states that a sports association, which has not completed its registration in the electronic register, cannot participate in events that give points. Thus, 34 athletes and 26 athletes entered the draws, while the Technical Committee decided for the doubles events to give athletes, who were suddenly without a teammate, the opportunity to book another partner on the spot.

Also due to this development and the reduction of races, the organizers have released a new schedule. Tomorrow Sunday the program starts at 09:40, but the finals were calculated earlier than the originally scheduled time, namely at 13:40 for the doubles and at 14:20 for the singles.

In the men’s singles, 6 groups were initially formed and in the women’s singles 5, while a number of favorites went directly to the board. In the matches of Saturday 25/03, the victory of Yannis Koutras over the “bronze” Balkan youth champion in three events, Sokratis Giannoutsou, with a 3-1 set, stood out. Scored in the round of ’32’.

In the 2nd group of men’s singles, there was a three-way tie between Iraklis Kerasidis (DAO Tavros), Dimitris Stathoulopoulos (Aris 2006) and Kostas Sotiriou (Sarises Florina). In fact, in the games between them, they each had one victory with the same score (3-1 set)! The points were counted and Kerasidis had a better score there to get the qualification on the scoreboard with 2nd place. Sotiris Sapakos (OEA Thessaloniki) scored a surprise victory, even without a counterattack, in the 1st group over the international Sokratis Giannoutsos, who was number 1 favorite in the group stage. He prevailed with a 3-1 set, but had already lost the chances of qualification, just as Giannoutsos had secured qualification with first place.

A triple tie was also created in the 5th group of the women’s singles. Christina Athanasopoulou (Finikas Piraeus), Georgia Yagou (HAN Thessaloniki) and Georgia Spanou (Sarises Florina) each had 4 points. Athanasopoulou had a positive coefficient from the matches between them and got the 2nd privileged position for the knockouts.

On the website https://app.ttscore.io/customer/24/event/582 interested parties can see the results of the matches online.

In an area of the hall, created right next to the competition area, 5 tables were placed, where the athletes could warm up at all hours. The gym was visited today by the deputy mayor for Sports in the municipality of Amyntaio, Eleni Gyriki.
