by

It had historical dimensions victory of Aris over Ionian with 103-64 for the 20th game of the Basket League. The “yellow and black” scored their first “100 points” since February 25, 2017 when they prevailed at home against Korivos with 100-79.

To find an offensive performance greater than yesterday’s for Aris, we have to go back to the 2016 playoffs when he scored 108 in the second quarterfinal against Kifisia, winning away from home 108-103 but in a match with double overtime.

The previous three-digit performance of the “yellow and black” as home team in the Championship, was the one they recorded on March 21, 2004 against Elysiakos, winning 114-63. In that season, however, they used Ivanofeio as their headquarters, where the match against Elysiakos took place.

We should go back 20 whole years back, to find the last time Aris scored 100 in his natural home, Nick Galis Hall. It was February 19, 2003 when Aris defeated Olympia Larissa 108-89.

At the same time, Aris reached four new season records in the Basket League:

*Yannis Kastritis’ team got 60 of their 103 points from the racket of Ionikos, setting a new season record in the Basket League. The previous one was that of 54 that Peristeri bwin had in the match of the 5th match against Karditsa Biological Village. At the same time, this is a three-year record in the category since we have to go back to the 2019-20 season to find the previous highest performance of points through the “drawing board”, when Panathinaikos scored 62 in its away game against Panionios.

The season record is also the +40 made by the “yellow and black” in points through the racket (60-20), since the previous one was the +34 that Peristeri bwin had in the 10th match against Prometheus (50-16).

*Yesterday’s game also saw the biggest margin of errors between two teams of the season, with Aris making 13 less (10 vs. 23) surpassing the 12 performance that had been recorded a week earlier in Ionikos’ game with Peristeri bwin (24- 12).

*Ares reached another season high in turnovers, posting the highest turnover rate with a +29 (35-6). It surpassed by one the previous highest performance which was +28 of Olympiakos in its away game against Lavrio Megabolt (9-37).

* Aris was one point short of the season record with 30 (30/51) and Ionikos was one point short of the negative season record with 10 (10/27).

* Aris had 76 more points in the ranking (126-50) approaching the record of the season which is +79 which was reached twice by Olympiacos – in its games against Lavrio and Apollon at home – and once by Kolossos against Ionic.

*The Thessaloniki team presented for the second time six different, double-digit scorers. This had also happened in the match of the 8th match against Lavrio. Panathinaikos and Peristeri have the most – out of three – bwin.

* Aris won by a margin of 39 points, which was also the maximum they got in the game. Overall, it is the 6th most scored in the course of a game in this year’s Basket League, with Panathinaikos holding the relevant record from matchday 14 when they led with 44 during their match against Ionikos.

*The 39-point victory makes last night’s Mars victory its widest in six years. We have to go back to the 2016-17 season to find the previous biggest, since then it was won at home by Rethymnon Cretan Kings by a margin of 48 points (98-50).

*The “yellow and black” on the other hand, were left without a cap for the third time, after the away games against Apollon Carna and Karditsa Biological Village, all in the last five matches.

On an individual level, Homer Netzipoglou he made his best performance of the season, based on ranking, with 17 and through it he tied his career record in rebounds. The international guard had eight rebounds – before yesterday’s game he had not exceeded four in the season – which he also had in the 17th matchday of last year’s Championship against AEK. At the same time, he became the 5th player of this year’s Mars with an 8+ rebound performance combined with a zero foul performance. Goodwin, Horkler, Sanogo and Kavvadas reached it once in the previous competitions. Netzipoglou, through his 51st appearance in the Basket League, became the 105th player in the history of Aris in the professional Championship to reach 100+ rebounds and the 32nd to reach 50+ steals.

*Vassilis Toliopoulos became a “200 man” in two statistical categories through his 174th appearance in the Basket League. He reached 200 defensive rebounds and 200 career fouls.

*Chevez Goodwin had three offensive rebounds and with them entered the top 20 foreign offensive rebounders in the history of Mars in the professional Championship. He reached 71, surpassing Sakur Juston (69), Terrell Castle (69), Milan Milosevic (70) and “caught” James Forrest (2000-01) and Andrew Namek (2014-15) for 17th on the list. With his eight rebounds at the same time, Goodwin entered the top 30 foreign rebounders of Aris. He reached 146 and left out of this list Eddie Stokes, Sam Muldrow and Jamel Huggins who had 141 each.

*Vassilis Christidis, with the two defensive rebounds he collected, reached 100 in his 85th appearance in the division.

*Yorgos Fillios scored 10 points for the second time – that’s how many he had in the away game against AEK – and was one point away from his career record.
