Goalkeeper Fábio, 41, should not reach the mark of a thousand games with the Cruzeiro shirt, which was so close. At least not while the club is managed by Ronaldo Fenômeno.

This Wednesday (5), the player, who played 976 matches for the Minas Gerais team, announced on social media that he will not have his contract renewed and took the opportunity to say goodbye to the Cruzeiro fan.

Fábio said that everything had been agreed with President Sérgio Rodrigues, but that the administration of the SAF (Sociedade Anônima do Futebol), headed by Ronaldo, did not want the renewal of the experienced archer.

“The renewal of the contract was agreed with the club, through president Sergio Rodrigues in November 2021, who even announced it publicly, lacking only the signatures of the negotiated documents. But this new administration no longer gave me that option”, said Fábio, in post on Instagram.

“I want to make it clear that I would accept the readjustment to the new salary cap, but this new administration did not give me that option either.”

The goalkeeper also used the post to publicly criticize Paulo André, hired by Ronaldo to be Cruzeiro’s football manager. The former defender was Fábio’s teammate at the club in 2015.

“The current board of directors was clear that they do not want to count on me for 2022. The executive director Pedro Martins and Gabriel Lima were present at the meeting, representing the current management. Paulo André, who was in the next room, did not even have the consideration of greet me, he being a former teammate,” said the 41-year-old.

At the end of his message published on Instagram, Fábio said that he and his family cried with the news of the non-renewal with Cruzeiro and thanked Cruzeiro fans “976 times”.

After a brief spell at the club in 2000, Fábio returned to Cruzeiro in 2005 to build the trajectory that would make him one of the greatest idols in celestial history.

With the Belo Horizonte team, he won seven Minas Gerais Championships (2006, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2014, 2018 and 2019), two Brazilian Championships (2013 and 2014) and three Brazilian Cups (2000, 2017 and 2018), in addition to having been elected the best goalkeeper in the 2010 and 2013 Brazilians. He is the club’s record holder.

On Wednesday night, Cruzeiro published a video on social media in honor of the goalkeeper.
