In the most episodic Grand Prix of all times of F1, Verstappen triumphed again!

by

Not even the biggest fan of drama could have imagined what happened at the Australian Grand Prix! In perhaps the strangest… race of all time, which lasted over 2.5 hours Max Verstappen emerged victorious after three red flags and two restarts seeing the checkered flag behind the safety car!

It was Lewis Hamilton who took the second step of the podium, while the magical Fernando Alonso rounded out the top three, with the FIA giving him back the place he lost at the last restart for an illegal hit by Saint, who due to a five-second penalty fell out of grades!

Leclerc went out at the first corner in the sand trap, Albon wrecked his car, Russell caught fire, Magnussen… lost a wheel, while Gasly, Ocon, De Vries and Sargent crashed into each other towards the finish, with the number of of drivers who gave up rises to eight. Although Perez started 20th, he finished in 5th place, while Aston Martin is certainly celebrating with Stroll’s 4th place.

The FIA initially decided on a lap 9 restart after Albon’s accident and until the track was cleared of gravel, with the cars not having any major reshuffles. In the restart of the 57th lap, however, which was probably unnecessary, Sainz hit Alonso and four other drivers were… knocked out. However, since Verstappen hadn’t even completed the 1st sector, it all didn’t even “count”, with Alonso taking back 3rd place, but those who didn’t manage to continue to be left out of the points.
