The referee of Olympiacos-PAOK received threats on his life and angered the president of Braga

Here, then, where we will see elite referee from the six top leagues in Europe and specifically from fifththe French, to whistle in a match of the Stoiximan Super League, even in the… endings!

THE Steve Bennett set the Frenchman Francois Letesier in Wednesday’s crucial derby (5/4, 9:00 p.m.) between Olympiakos and PAOK, for the 3rd matchday of the playoffs. This is, as we mentioned above, an elite referee, well known in the European marketwith several matches in his career, despite his young age, since he is only 33 years old. As assistants, the Frenchman will have his compatriots Cyril Meunier, Mendy Ramoni, 4th Manouhos and in the VAR, Pierre Zelouste with Costaras.

On Sunday night (2/4), in fact, he blew the whistle Paris Saint-Germain-Lyon 0-1where we had against him the strong protests of the hosts for hand-penalty, which he did not give, in the delays of the first half. Apparently, in consultation with the VAR, he considered that the hand was in a natural position and therefore did not give the full penalty.

It is worth noting, however, with the wish, of course, not to deal with him at all in Wednesday’s derby, that in the last months Letesier has been in the eye of the cyclone several times!

Last October he was the star of the Nice-Nade 1-1, challenging her anger of the guests and specifically of their coach, Antoine Compoire, because he had refused to whistle a penalty in the first half for the “canaries”, while he showed the white bullet in the 97th minute, giving the home team the opportunity to get the tie! Compoire characterized in the press conference “dishonest» François Letesier and was called to an apology.

The referee, in fact, gave an interview after this match, after the bad mess happened, explaining his decisions and acknowledging that he had a share of the responsibility! He revealed, didn’t he, that filed a complaint with the police for dozens of threatening messages, which he received, against his life!

Now in August, Letesier was named in the big Ligue 2 match between St Etienne and Le Havre. In that match St Etienne suffered their heaviest home defeat in history as Le Havre prevailed 6-0 in its empty stadium, with the “stephanois”, however, completing the game with eight players, as the French referee sent off three of its players.

If we go even further back, some may remember him waste, which we had last April in Rangers’ match against Braga, with the Portuguese team losing 3-1 and being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the Europa League. Braga’s management, however, had strong complaints from the French referee’s decisions, with their president, Antonio Salvador, launching a scathing attack on the 33-year-old referee, saying among other things: “Unfortunately we had a referee and a VAR, who it was probably the worst refereeing in recent years in football. At this level, we can’t have referees or VAR like in this match’!

For the record, Letesier has blown the whistle in 263 matches, dishing out 981 yellow cards and 43 reds, while setting up the ball on the penalty spot 97 times.
