Although it competes in the 3rd division and is a semi-professional club, Spakenburg has managed to reach the semi-finals of the Dutch Cup having eliminated, among others, with four Utrecht in the quarter-finals.
The “blues” host tonight Eindhoven in a single match for the “4” and in case they pull off a surprise, they will face Feyenoord or Ajax in the final of the institution.
But the Dutch Football Association will be faced with a big dilemma if that happens. You see, o KNVB Beker final is usually held on Sunday (April 30 this year), however in Spakenburg they flatly refuse to play this day!
And this is because in the homonymous city where the team is based religion it is a huge part of the daily life of the approximately 22,000 inhabitants, with Sunday being a day of rest dedicated to family and God.
“No, it’s not possible” answered when the president of the club, Mark Shunebeik, was asked about it, who explained how “the match plan, if we go through, is for the final to take place on Saturday night. If it becomes Sunday, we’ll probably say no, but it’s not clear yet.”
???? The Dutch FA will have a problem on their hands if surprise package Spakenburg upset PSV Eindhoven to reach the KNVB Cup final today.
