Panathinaikos escaped with a reversal from Rentis and goes to OAKA with a small advantage for the cup!

The spirited Panathinaikos got an advantage for winning the League Cup Nikos Samaras, after in the 1st final of Rentis against Olympiakos, despite the fact that he was close to defeat, he made the big turnaround and got a great “double” (2-3 sets) inside the headquarters of the “eternal” rival!

So in the rematch that is planned for her Holy Wednesday (12/4, 21:00) in OAKA, Dimitris Andreopoulos’s team needs a clear victory (3-0 or 3-1) to take the cup, while if they lose 3-2 they will have a chance at the golden set. On the contrary, Piraeus with a clear victory (3-0 or 3-1) can also lift the cup, but with any defeat, they lose the title. This is essentially the small advantage gained by the “clover”.

From the moment they found themselves behind, Olympiacos understood that they had to step on the gas and did so from the start of the second set (4-1). The Piraeus kept the lead (8-5), but the “clover” with Petreas in front aggressively turned the situation around and overtook (10-11)! From 12-12 and with Pagenk on serve, the home team ran an impressive run that put them in the lead for good (17-12). Panathinaikos reduced and stressed the “red and white” (20-18), but Stern and Hidalgo took action to make it 1-1 (25-19).

In order to stay alive in the game, Panathinaikos entered the fourth set strongly and showed its intentions early on (2-6). For Andreopoulos’s team, Hernandez and Kovar turned up the pace, while Giuliani’s players made several mistakes that cost them and it was easy 7-15. Olympiacos somehow went to collect the difference (9-15), but with Basis on the serve, the “clover” almost “cleaned up” things, since it reached +10 (11-21)! The three collected points of the “red and white” (14-21) did not change the image of the fourth set, which the visitors won with the emphatic 15-25 for 2-2!
