The presence three Italian teams in the Champions League,Milan, Napoli and Inter, takes us back to 2006 when it last happened. Traditionally, the country’s teams star in the top inter-club competition. They count a total of 12 conquests, 7 from Milan, 3 from Inter and 2 from Juventus. In recent years they have not achieved anything worthwhile. This year with three teams in the “8” of the competition they seek to raise the status of Italian football again.
Going back to the 2005/06 season we again meet three teams in the quarter-finals. Then there were the Juventus, Inter Milan and Milan but with none managing to conquer the trophy, which ended up in Barcelona. Of course, in the 2002/03 season the Italian teams starred with three teams in the semi-finals of the Champions League. Milan then prevailed over Inter while Juventus advanced over Real Madrid. In the Italian civil war of the final, Milan was crowned European champion on penalties.
The last victory of an Italian team is that of Inter, who reached the top of Europe with Jose Mourinho on the bench in 2010 against Bayern Munich with a score of 2-0
