WRC driver killed on test track

The Irishman WRC driver Craig Driver was killed in a car accidenton a test run before the Croatia rally.

The 33-year-old Hyundai Motorsport driver died while his co-driver, James Fulton, was ejected from the car unharmed, the team confirmed.

Hyundai Motorsport extends its sincerest condolences to Craig’s family, friends and their many fans, the team said in a statement.

On the official WRC account, a condolence message was posted on the death of the driver. “The WRC family is shocked and saddened by the passing of Craig Breen. Our thoughts and condolences go out to Craig’s family and friends at this unimaginably sad time.”

Breen, whose father was an Irish champion, started his career in karting, moving up to the professional rally class in 2009. He moved to the WRC academy in 2011.

WRC champion Kale Rovanpera paid tribute to Brin: “Rest in peace Craig. My thoughts are with your family and friends tonight.”

FIA president Ben Sulayem expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased driver.

“Craig was a world-class driver and a world-class person”Motorsport Ireland chairman Aiden Harper wrote.
