Lead for the semi-finals was taken by PAOK!
The “two-headed man of the north” entered with his foot on the gas in the fourth period and despite his great comeback Prometheushe won 78-75for 1-0 in the Basket League playoff series.
The fourth quarter of the match was very impressive. The Thessaloniki team started with a 13-0 run, overturning -3 and going +10 (71-61), at 37′. Then, the Patrinos responded with big three-pointers, bringing the match to a point (76-75), in the last seconds. However, a fatal error by Thomason and two shots by Franke with 6.8 minutes to go shaped the final score.
A terrible performance from PAOK was made by Salustros with 18 points and 14 rebounds, with Franke adding another 18p.
From Prometheus, the first scorers were Condit and Thomason with 14 p. and 13p. respectively.
The match
The two teams were tied (6-7) in the first four minutes. PAOK then took control, going even to +6 (17-11), with Tsairelis making it 17-13 in the first period.
With a 5-0 run, the hosts entered the second quarter, for +9 (22-13) and with “weapon” offensive rebounds, they reached +10 (31-21), at 16′. Prometheus’ response came from Cowan and Condit, reducing to -6 (34-28), with this difference remaining until the end of the first half (38-32).
The image of the match was the same at the beginning of the second half, with Salustro and Franke keeping PAOK at +9 (53-44), until the 24th minute. However, the continuation belonged entirely to the team of Patras, as with the forwards of Thomason and Kulboka, they turned the tide and ended the third period at +3 (58-61).
The home team entered the fourth quarter with their foot on the… gas and with Saloustro as the main protagonist, they went on a 13-0 run, for +10 (71-61), until the 37th minute. Prometheus answered with defenses and three-pointers from Thomason and Ghika, getting closer to -3 (75-72), 44.9” before the end. This was followed by 1/2 shots by Margaritis and a three-pointer by Cowan (76-75), at 30”. Afterwards, Tsiakmas made a mistake and Thomason made a mistake. At 6.8”, Franke was 2/2 from the line and with Cowan missing a 3-pointer in exhalation, PAOK won 78-75.
