The walking champion was a victim of a traffic accident, Filtisakou Sunday, while doing her training in the area of Astros Kynouria. According to the local website arcadiaportal, the athlete was dragged by a passing car in the Glyfada area, shortly before 11 am, and was injured. He was first taken to the Astros Health Center and from there to the Panarkadian Hospital of Tripoli, in order to undergo tests.
According to the first information, Filtisakou is not in any danger, but it remains unknown if her injury will affect her competitive obligations. The CT scan will show the severity of the shoulder and back problems.
The driver of the car seems to have lost control of the vehicle and for no apparent reason crashed into the athlete in a central part of the city. Her coach who was with her, as well as those who were in front of the incident, immediately mobilized. The athlete was initially transferred to the Astros health center and from there to the Tripoli hospital.
Filtisakou’s coach, Napoleon Kefalopoulos, said: “Fortunately he is fine, however the shoulder and back knocks will now have to be assessed to see how long he will be out of training. It will be decided in the next 24 hours if he will be able to catch the match in the Czech Republic (including the European Swimming Team Championship, on 5/21). The three weeks left before the race are few and I don’t know if they are enough for him to recover».
