On the match sheet of the first women’s Volley League final between Panathinaikos and Olympiakos, the referees recorded the stoppage of the match and the evacuation of the closed Agios Thomas by the friends of the “greens”, so that the match could continue and be completed normally.
Analytically: “At 23-19 in favor of Panathinaikos in the third set, a Panathinaikos fan lit a smoke generator in the stands. The match was stopped and the first referee came down from the ladder to make recommendations to extinguish the smoke generator. At the same time, the fans of Panathinaikos chanted in unison “Koundouri, murder Piraeus.”
Recommendations were made over the loudspeakers about the abusive chants and the fans complied. The smoke generator went off and the match resumed after 3′. After the end of the third set, the smoke spread, causing the first referee to come down the stairs and stop the game, because it was impossible to continue due to visibility and breathing difficulties.
At 23.00 and, in accordance with the general regulations for the organization of championships, chapter D, article 17 paragraph eight (h), the home team was informed that within 45′, which is also provided for in the said article, i.e. at 23:45, they must complete evacuation of the field.
At 23:05 the teams and referees went to the locker room. With the full cooperation of the management of Panathinaikos, taking the necessary initiatives, the stadium was evacuated in the 25th minute. At 23:28 the referees and the teams came out on the field and the first ones found that the atmosphere has cleared, since the management of Panathinaikos opened as many doors as possible.
With the agreement of referees and teams, a 17′ warm-up was given, so that the teams are ready to compete. The match resumed at 23:45 and ended normally.
