Panathinaikos AO won today Sunday 04/30 at the Peace and Friendship Stadium the title of the Attica Men’s Table Tennis Cup for the 2022-2023 season.
In the final, they defeated OEA Rethymno 4-0 and reached this trophy for the 2nd year in a row.
In the final four of the competition, Panathinaikos became a big favorite when the champion Olympiacos chose not to “send” a team because, as it was reported competently, his foreigners left today due to a competitive obligation in another country and he did not have the possibility to line up a very competitive trio.
Panathinaikos used a total of four athletes, in the semi-finals it was very difficult to overcome the obstacle of AO Tataula and in the final against Crete they had little pressure. All these teams, of course, have the right to participate in the Greek Cup, which is to be held at the beginning of June.
Details of the final OEA Rethymnon-Panathinaikos 0-4:
Dimitris Kordoutis-Nikos Antoniadis 1-3 (11-8, 4-11, 6-11, 11-13)
Fanis Tsahakis-Petio Krastef 0-3 (6-11, 8-11, 7-11)
Konstantinos Deredakis-Konstantinos Konstantinopoulos 0-3 (3-11, 3-11, 2-11)
Kordoutis-Krastef 2-3 (6-11, 4-11, 11-7, 15-13, 1-11)
In the semi-finals, Panathinaikos defeated AO Tataula 4-2 in a match that lasted approximately 3.5 hours. Konstantinos Angelakis and Konstantinos Konstantinopoulos defeated Dimitris Papadimitriou with 3-2 sets. The two victories for Tataula came, also with great effort, from Gerasimos Hatzilygeroudis. He overcame Krastef in five sets and then also with 3-2 sets against Angelakis in two more great victories in this year’s inter-club appearance.
Panathinaikos had also used Giorgos Konstantinopoulos on the way to the board of the Local Cup, also today he declared in the final and the leading Greek ace, Panagiotis Gionis, about the possibility of competing in the doubles and thus in the award they wore the gold medal as well the two athletes. Lefteris Makras was the coach.
In the other semi-final, Rethymno defeated Olympiakos without a fight with 4-0. Of course, without a “small” final, Tataula also won 3rd place (with Hatzilygeroudis, Papadimitriou and Yiannis Boskovics). The explanation given by Olympiakos for the absence from the Local Cup is that it was not possible to form a particularly competitive team because all three foreigners, who competed yesterday 29/04 in the final of the Greek championship (Gatsina, Pukar, Monteiro), they left on Sunday for a match with their other teams tomorrow in Italy. In the neighboring country, the final of the Serie A is held on May Day, with rivals Messina from Monteiro and Apuania Carrara from the two Croats.
The general secretary of E.F.O.E.P.A. awarded the prizes to the men, as well as to AEK for the women. Yannis Kordoutis.
